thoughts from the run ... between the start of '

thoughts from the run ...

between the start of '20 and the start of '21 I lost 20lbs. it wasn't intentional, I just started running more, eating healthier, snacking less, embracing & respecting my hormone fluxes.

in the past three months of 2021 I've gained back about half of that. it's how my body has adapted to the synergy of having hormones out of whack since late dec, several doctors saying not to exercise, feeling fatigued / burned out / exhausted, attending so many births that make extra physical time feel impossible. spending most days unmotivated, wishing I could just go back to sleep. then finally getting cleared to go out for a run and having everything feel different. my legs feel full of lactic acid, my butt feels different as I stride, my cardio isn't where it was, my anxiety over an upcoming race that I was excited but unable to adequately train for. everything feels messy, nothing feels like me.

today I set out for 3 miles, a distance very familiar and easy for me. then I just kept going. my legs felt strong and light again, my breathing was easy, my "girl anthems" playlist was incredible and I just cruised along. for 6 miles I didn't look at my watch, I didn't try to keep a steady pace, I didn't think about what progress was or wasn't happening or what miles I was on, I just enjoyed the weather and enjoyed the run.

I half woke up this morning and the first word I s

I half woke up this morning and the first word I said, which I don't remember, was "blueberries".

several hours later, after sleeping in an extra hour + ☕ + a run with the boys, I was having the crummiest day. just one of those days where everything feels too big and you don't feel like enough and you don't like who you see in the mirror and just everything isn't clicking.

sometimes I thrive on alone time, but on days like this I really do not. so I put on one of my favorite dresses, that spends too much time in the closet, and C took me first to get blueberries and then to the monuments for an offline afternoon. just catching up on reading & snacking & enjoying the sun 🫐☀🤍

some mornings C heads out a second before the boys

some mornings C heads out a second before the boys and I to take the trash out. then, as we wait out front, Benjamin has an existential crisis trying to figure out if he will appear from our apartment's door or from around the side of the building.

& every time Ben catches a glimpse of him it's the same reaction: COMPLETE PUPPY GLEE with a tick tock tail 🐾

finally got a good video of this moment that's "normal" and "routine" in our lives, but still overwhelmingly special 🤍

feeling Iike I'm in a very New Moon phase of my life. feeling quiet, reflective, ready for personal growth that is imminent. I love a New Moon. the deep, calming breath before some new releases. maybe it's just that my fiery Aries Moon & Rising like the challenge and balance of a calmer space. or maybe my Scorpio Sun & stellium like the deep introspection and internal work that happens. either way, breathe in - breathe out - breathe even - embracing this moment 🌑
